Matthew 17:20 – If you had faith, even the size of a mustard seed
If you had faith even the size of a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible for you. This is a verse found in the book of Matthew 17:20, which forms part of the New Testament of the Holy Bible.
Jesus is bringing his disciples a great lesson and answering their question about the real reason why they were unable to heal a demon-possessed boy. A large crowd was waiting for Jesus at the foot of the mountain. Suddenly, a man approached, kneeling before Jesus, and began to speak with the master. That man explained the situation of his son, who suffered terribly from convulsions and that his son often fell into fire or water.
And here comes the central passage of this study that says:“if you had faith even the size of a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible for you, Matheists 17:20.”
Here in this verse JJesus is emphasizing the importance of faith in working miracles and also in overcoming obstacles.
Even if we have “a small amount of faith” that little faith can produce amazing results and that if the disciples have enough faith they can accomplish great things. We understand that faith is important for Christians, because the Bible says that faith is believing in God and in his word. In Hebrews 11:1, it is written: “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” far beyond reason or human understanding and allows us to live in communion with God.
Hebrews 11:1 it shows that faith allows what is still hidden, that is, things that cannot be seen or understood, to come true.
The Bible teaches that only through faith is it possible to develop a relationship of communion with God. John 3:16, it is written: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. Through faith we believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to reconcile man with God, and thus inherit eternal life. Faith is the source of hope and the way in which we can draw close to God.
According to the bible how to have faith?
Seek to know more and more the word of God: Knowledge of the word of God, whether by reading, studying and meditating on the Bible, becomes a fundamental tool to understand the character and purposes of God and the beginning of the exercise of faith.
Pray: The strengthening of faith is achieved through constant prayers and as well as confidence in their answer.
Confess your doubts and weaknesses: recognizing your faults and sins are ways to strengthen faith, as it demonstrates how much you are willing to let God work in your life.
Witness your faith: Faith is something that should be shared with other people, as it helps to strengthen them in the midst of adversity. When you talk about the things God does in your life, it builds your trust in God and strengthens other people’s faith.
Stand firm amid trials: It is in difficult times that your faith is tested, amid trials, you have the opportunity, to make faith grow and strengthen. Trust God even when things don’t seem to work out.
Give thanks to God: Strengthening faith also involves gratitude, because there must be constant thanksgiving to God for the good things you have achieved and for the things you hope he will accomplish in your life.
Be faithful to God: Whatever happens, your faith and trust in God must remain unshakable, even when struggles arise. Stay true to your commitments to God and honoring his word.
