Today, we will talk about a remarkable blind man! This man was sitting by the roadside, begging, and the Bible teaches us many lessons we can apply today.
The healing of the blind man of Jericho will first teach us that the crowd present there could only see what their physical eyes allowed. They had physical sight, but in truth, they were spiritually blind.
Spiritual blindness prevented the crowd from perceiving the true essence of Jesus Christ. Despite having the physical ability to see, their souls remained darkened by a lack of spiritual understanding and sensitivity. Often, the crowd was merely chasing what Jesus could offer—running after blessings while forgetting to seek the Blesser Himself.
As a result, they were limited to a superficial view of the world around them, unable to grasp the depth of the heavenly things Jesus had to offer.
Yet this man by the roadside, though physically blind, saw more than the entire crowd because he “saw with spiritual eyes.” In other words, he saw through faith, believing that his miracle could become a reality at that moment.
The Bible describes the reality of the blind man of Jericho, noting that he was sitting by the roadside, leading us to imagine that society might have looked at him and said, “This is just another one, another helpless person, someone who can’t offer any benefit.”
Luke 18:35-43 – As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied. Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
1st Lesson: The Opportunity to Receive a Miracle
Luke 18:36 – When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening.
One day, while begging by the roadside, he heard something unusual. This passage reminds us of the importance of recognizing and seizing the special moments when God manifests in our lives.
He shows us that, even amidst difficulties and limitations, it’s possible to recognize the divine presence and receive the blessings He has to offer. Like that man, we can open our hearts and allow God’s light to guide, inspire, and transform us.
The blind man of Jericho heard something out of the ordinary and decided to find out what was happening. According to Luke 18:37, they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.
The Bible simply states that they informed him Jesus of Nazareth was passing, which leads us to reflect and imagine that someone, at that moment, stopped and began recounting the miraculous deeds of Jesus wherever He went. Perhaps that person said, “Jesus, the Nazarene, is passing by. He has been performing healings, miracles, wonders, and even raising the dead; He’s making the impossible happen wherever He goes.”
Even though he only knew of Jesus by hearsay, he immediately placed a desire in his heart and began crying out to the Lord Jesus to receive his miracle.
Luke 18:38-39 – He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
This example reveals something truly marvelous. While some ignored him and told him to stop crying out, the blind man of Jericho shows us that the one who truly needed the miracle was himself.
He didn’t let the negative words around him shake him. With faith and determination, he kept crying out for a miracle. His persistence and faith were rewarded, for when Jesus passed by, he was heard and received healing. This passage reminds us of the importance of maintaining unshakable faith, even in the face of adversity, and never giving up on seeking the miracle we need. Each of us has our own journey and needs, and we must keep believing that healing and transformation are possible in our lives.
This passage teaches us that we are the ones who need the miracle. So, when we’re seeking a miracle, it doesn’t matter what others say or if they claim the Master won’t hear us. We must persist, seek, and pray continually, keeping our faith unwavering. Understand that this man didn’t listen to the voices around him but focused on the Provider of the miracle.
2nd Lesson: The Miracle in Our Lives Lies in Crying Out
The blind man of Jericho begins to cry out: “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” The crowd tells him to be quiet, but he continues: “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Our God is the God who changes history.
He persists, even amidst voices trying to silence him. His unshakable faith drives him to keep asking for mercy, undeterred by the obstacles in his path. Then, Jesus calls him, hearing his sincere cry. Understand that he is healed, showing us not only the healing of physical blindness but also a powerful example of how faith and perseverance can lead us to transformative encounters.
Luke 18:40-41 – Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied.
When Jesus called the man, He asked, “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus knew the man’s need, but He wanted to hear it from him.
The Lord today wants to hear about your needs, for you to express them and, through your prayers, share the desires of your heart. The Lord, on this day, is asking you: “What do you want me to do for you?”
When the Lord invites us to express our needs and desires through prayer, He reminds us of His unconditional love and willingness to help. By asking, “What do you want me to do for you?” He invites us to trust Him and share our deepest longings. May we open ourselves to this sincere and strengthening communication, trusting that the Lord is always ready to hear and guide us with love and compassion. His words are a gentle reminder that He is ever-present to help us find comfort, peace, and direction in our lives. We should approach Him with humility and confidence, knowing He welcomes us with love and kindness at all times. May our words and desires always be guided by the light of His wisdom and the generosity of His loving heart.
When Jesus asked the blind man what he needed, he promptly replied, “Lord, I want to see!” By communicating his need to Jesus, the blind man received his miracle and regained his sight.
From every encounter with Jesus, we are transformed, for His faith and mercy turn our darkness into light, our anguish into hope, and our impossibility into a living testimony of divine power.
3rd Lesson: What Determines Your Miracle Is Your Faith and Perseverance
Having the faith that it’s possible to overcome obstacles and achieve your goals is the first step to making your miracle a reality. Stand firm, even in difficult moments, for it’s your determination that will lead you to the miracle. Always remember that, just as the blind man of Jericho didn’t heed contrary words and received his miracle, the power to transform your life is in your hands. With faith and dedication, no challenge is too great to overcome. Believe in yourself and your potential, and you’ll see the impossible become possible before your eyes.
Luke 18:42-43 – Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
Then, he instantly regained his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. Witnessing this miracle, the entire community began glorifying God. Gratitude not only leads us to receive blessings but also to follow the Blesser.
Gratitude is a powerful feeling that connects us to God and others. When we witness miracles or even small acts of kindness, we’re invited to reflect on the generosity and love that permeate our lives. Following the Blesser doesn’t just mean seeking more blessings but walking alongside the One who shows us the path of compassion and humility.
Though that man couldn’t see physically, through faith, he knew Jesus could heal him, recognizing that only Jesus could change his story. This message reveals that Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” Instantly, he regained his sight and began glorifying God, and all the people, seeing this, gave praise to God.
When we put our faith into action, we witness God’s miracles in our lives—whether healing, deliverance, transformation, renewal, or more. Every miracle will only happen in our lives through our faith. May we place our faith in God and believe that the impossible can come to pass.
May we carry this message of faith to those who have yet to encounter God. If this content has inspired you, we ask just two things: leave a comment to strengthen our faith and share it on social media so more people can be impacted by God’s power.
