In Isaiah 6 we find invaluable lessons, where the vision of the prophet Isaiah is narrated with rich details and highlighting the true encounter with God. In the year that King Uzziah died, the prophet Isaiah is taken in a vision to a place that would change his life forever.
In verses 1 to 4 the prophet Isaiah in his vision describes in detail all the glory he saw at that time.
- In the year that King Uzziah died, I also saw the Lord seated on a high and exalted throne; and the tail of his robe filled the temple.
- Seraphim were above him; each had six wings; with two they covered their faces, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew
- And cried one to another, saying, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory.
- And the doorposts moved at the voice of the one crying, and the house was filled with smoke.
1st An encounter with God generates in us the recognition of who we really are!
Isaiah 6:5 – Then said I, Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and dwell among a people of unclean lips; my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
The prophet Isaiah recognized that he was standing before a Holy God, and that he was a sinner and could not be there. The prophet Isaiah recognizes that he was neither worthy nor worthy to be there, seeing what he was seeing, and feeling what he was feeling. The Holy Spirit of God is able to constrain us by making us recognize our mistakes and make the covenant with Him.
John 16:7,8 – Yet I tell you the truth, that it is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come to you; but when I go I will send it to you. And when he comes, he will convince the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.
There are times in our lives when only the holy spirit can convince us of our crooked paths, making us return to the path of truth, as we often become “owners of our noses” and think we can do what we want and live the way we want.
In certain moments of our life, who starts to command our life is God himself. We can even live for a while doing our will, but at some point we will have an encounter with God and this encounter marks our life changing direction and history.
The Prophet Isaiah for example, had unclean lipsand was in the midst of an unclean people, but at the time of encounter with God The prophet Isaiah: “My eyesseen the King, Lord of hosts” From that moment we can see that every encounter with God is capable of transforming us, as we will never have an experience with God and we continue in the same way.
God doesn’t care about the sins, failures, mistakes and shortcomings you came here with. God wants to know what you will be like from now on.
He understands? God wants to know what you’ll be like after the date.
At that point in the prophet Isaiah’s vision, God wasn’t caring who Isaiah was, or who he was around, God wasn’t caring if Isaiah’s lips were unclean, for God was caring who Isaiah was the from that encounter. God knew that after the Encounter, Isaiah would come out differently.
God wants to meet you regardless of what you’ve done to get here. God is interested in who you will be from here on.
God is interested in what you will be from an encounter with him, that’s why he brought you here, so that you understand that every encounter is capable of changing a life.
Luke 1:37 – Because with God nothing is impossible.
2nd An encounter with God is capable of transforming us!
Isaiah 6:5 – Then said I, Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and dwell among a people of unclean lips; my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
The teaching here to be extracted is that every time we recognize our error and our sins, God is able to cleanse us from our sins and thus making us a new creation.
1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
When Isaiah begins to recognize his shortcomings, we will see God himself entering into a cleansing process.
First Isaiah recognizes sin, and then cleansing takes place.
Isaiah 6:7-7 But one of the seraphim flew to me, carrying in his hand a live coal, which he had taken from the altar with a tongs; And it touched my mouth with the coal, and said, Behold, this has touched thy lips; and thy iniquity was taken away, and thy sin atoned for.
The angel takes a live coal, taken from the altar and touches Isaiah’s mouth, we see that after this moment all sin is forgiven. Every encounter with God is transforming, capable of making us recognize our mistakes, capable of breaking us and capable of generating remission of our sins.
3rd Every encounter with God generates in us sensitivity to God’s voice
Isaiah, who once had unclean lips, who lived among unclean people, was now faced with a supernatural vision. He was living the impossible in human eyes at the same time, undergoing a mighty transformation process, as Iasia had recognized his mistakes, and as he recognized Isaiah, he was transformed by God Himself, and now Isaiah hears call God’s.
It is the call of God said: “whom shall I send, and who shall go for us?”
Isaiah 6:8 – After this I heard the voice of the LORD, saying, Whom shall I send, and who shall go for us? Then I said: Here am I, send me.
Isaiah now fully transformed declares: Here am I, send me.
Every encounter with God generates a brokenness within our heart, that is, it makes us sensitive to the voice of God. We understand that first, God shows us supernatural things, and these things generate in us a desire for transformation, to live what we are seeing.
- Isaiah sees God’s glory being made manifest.
- Isaiah sees the need to recognize and forsake his sins
- Isaiah is cleansed by the glory of God, as he recognizes his sins
- Isaiah is involved with the glory of God, and is totally broken and with an immense desire to fulfill God’s will.
The benefits of having an encounter with God is that from an encounter with Him we will no longer be the same, as an encounter with God is capable of changing our lives. God is willing to have a special meeting with each one of us, but it is necessary that we come to recognize our mistakes, our failures and understand that we are the vessel and God is the Potter. So let’s let God mold us, as this is something totally necessary for us to have a true encounter with God.
What should prevail in our lives is not our will, but God’s, it is not our will but God’s will.
Perhaps, we’ve come this far asking ourselves: Why haven’t we had an encounter with God yet?
The answer is: We may have even seen his glory, his move and action, but we don’t recognize the need to renounce our self, recognize that we are sinners, and really let God change our lives.
Only by acknowledging our failures, mistakes, shortcomings and sins can we be involved with the glory of God, and be like Isaiah’s prophet. A man full of the Glory of God and with a broken heart who recognized before an incomparable power, that it was necessary to turn from his sins and live in a life of holiness.
May God bless your life and may you meet God.
