In this world we live in, the righteous face many difficulties, but they know that the Lord God delivers them from all of them. God protects the bones of the righteous so that not a bone is broken.

Psalm 34:19Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.

Why do the afflictions of the righteous exist?

It may seem strange, but all afflictions have a purpose.

Romans 8:28 – For all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose.

Nothing happens in our lives by chance, everything is under God’s grand control, and nothing escapes His purposes.

Job 42.2 – I know that you can do everything, and that none of your purposes can be stopped.

Everything that happens in the life of the human being is in the purpose of God. When we talk about suffering, we’re not just talking about something spiritual, but we’re also talking about something that occurs in the physical world, things that affect our lives.

Have you ever stopped to think that losing a job is suffering, because in the time we live in, this worker will certainly go through hardships and difficulties, but what we want to emphasize is that all suffering has a purpose.

And for God to bless us it is often necessary that the righteous come to suffer some losses. Returning to the example of this worker who lost his job, the door that God is going to open for him has infinitely more than the one he lost.

Many times to live new things it is necessary to let some old things go.

Job is an example of a righteous person who experienced suffering. Job lost all his wealth, his children and his health, but Job never abandoned God. Job understood that God had given wealth, children, family and God had taken away. And by his loyalty and faithfulness to God, in the end we see that the Lord restored everything in Job’s life!

The greatest difficulty that the human being faces in the midst of suffering is to remain in God.

Abiding in God in the moment of plenty and happiness is easy, but staying with God in the moment of suffering is only for those who truly love God with all their heart and trust Him entirely.

In the bible we have several examples of suffering of the righteous. Moses was raised in the palace, but suffered in the desert, as he was participating in the process of liberating God’s people.

Joseph, for loving God and his precepts, also experienced the afflictions of the righteous, because he chose not to lie with Potiphar’s wife and ended up wronged in prison. Understand that for Joseph to become governor of Egypt, there was a way and that way involved experiencing the afflictions of the righteous. Joseph was sold by his own brothers as a slave, then he was thrown into prison, for a crime he had not committed, and after some time of affliction Joseph finally attained his blessing, becoming governor of all Egypt.

Daniel prayed three times a day and also experienced the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivered him from the lions’ den.

Daniel 6:10-13 – For when Daniel heard that the edict was signed, he went into his house (now in his room there were windows open towards Jerusalem), and three times a day he knelt down and prayed, and he gave thanks before his God, as he also used to do before.

Our father in faith Abraham also experienced the afflictions of the righteous. When Abraham had to go to the mount of sacrifice, on his way to the place where Isaac would be sacrificed, Abraham experienced this moment, moment of anguish and affliction.

Afflictions are moments in which we live, but they have an end. We must understand that every moment of affliction is to lead us to the realization of a purpose. We must stand firm in God and ask him to come and deliver us from these times of affliction.

God is with his ears attentive to our cry, for the Lord says thus: Jeremiah 3:33 – Call to me and I will answer and tell you great and unsearchable things that you do not know “.
