Have you ever stopped to reflect on what your calling is in the work of God? We all have a specific calling for our lives, but it is not always easy to understand what the Lord has in store for us. Today, we will explore God’s calling.
At this very moment, reflect and ask yourself: what is my calling?
I invite you to open the Word of God. Read Isaiah 61:1-3, where the prophet tells us about the divine calling:
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.”
God’s calling is tied to proclaiming the acceptable year of the Lord and announcing the day of vengeance of our God. God calls us to comfort all who mourn, ordering that they receive beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. Thus, we will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord, so that God may be glorified.
To fulfill God’s calling in our lives, we must pay attention to a few key points that the Word of God will reveal to us. In this Bible study, we will walk through verse by verse to discover what our calling is. We all have a calling, regardless of whether or not we belong to a ministry.
Isaiah 61:1-3 gives us the description of the Messiah and His anointing, relating to His mission or ministry. Isaiah describes His character and supremacy more directly in chapter 11:2-3. When Jesus began His ministry, He quoted these verses, applying them in the exact same way.
We observe that Jesus’ anointed ministry is described in Luke 4:18-19, which includes:
- Preaching the Gospel to the poor, humble, and afflicted;
- Healing the sick, and those who are spiritually and physically brokenhearted;
- Breaking the chains of evil and proclaiming freedom from sin and demonic oppression;
- Opening the spiritual eyes of the lost so they may see the light of the Gospel and be saved.
This fourfold purpose characterized Jesus Christ’s ministry and will continue to be fulfilled by the church while it is on earth.
1st: Preach the Gospel to the poor, humble, and afflicted
Matthew 28:19 — “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
Fulfilling the “Go” command consists of announcing the Gospel, taking it to those who do not yet have full knowledge of the truth—whether a person who has strayed from the ways of the Lord or someone who has never walked them before.
Your calling includes taking the Gospel to every creature, regardless of where they are or their condition. “Go” means bringing the Gospel to everyone, proclaiming that Jesus Christ heals, saves, delivers, renews, and leads us to heaven.
Affirm that Jesus is the only way, the truth, and the life, and that no one comes to the Father except through Him. May we begin fulfilling God’s calling today!
2nd: Heal those who are spiritually and physically sick and brokenhearted
Matthew 10:8 — “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.”
The Lord Jesus has conferred authority upon us to cast out all disease, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, and set people free from demonic oppression. What we received freely, we must also offer freely to others.
Let us pray with faith, believing that God will heal, transform, renew, and deliver, witnessing the impossible become reality, just as the Word of God declares.
John 14:13 — “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
3rd: Break the chains of evil and proclaim deliverance from sin and demonic dominance
2 Corinthians 3:17 — “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
Wherever the Holy Spirit is at work, there is deliverance, transformation, renewal, spiritual enrichment, and a change of life and character. When we allow God to act, deliverance happens not only within us, but also in those around us.
Your calling is to foster the deliverance of those who are captive, powerless, discouraged, oppressed, and weighed down by forces of evil. Therefore, your calling is to minister this Gospel with absolute boldness, breaking the chains of evil and proclaiming freedom from sin and demonic dominance.
4th: Open the spiritual eyes of those who have not yet encountered God, so that they too may see, live in the light of the Gospel, and be saved
Acts 2:21 — “And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved!”
Right now, there are people who need a friendly word, a message declaring that Jesus Christ heals, saves, delivers, and leads to heaven. There are people right now who just need to hear: “Jesus loves you.”
Your calling is to minister the Gospel, preaching the Word to the poor and needy across all social classes. We understand that the calling is to heal those who are sick, both physically and spiritually.
We understand that God’s calling in our lives is to shatter the bonds of evil, proclaiming freedom from sin and release from oppression. God’s calling consists of opening the eyes of those who have not yet glimpsed the Kingdom of Heaven. The calling is to fulfill the “Go” throughout the world, preaching the Gospel to every creature. It is bringing this Gospel to those in need.
From this moment on, may we minister the Gospel that the Lord has placed in our hands. May we bring this word to the homeless, to those society looks at and says there is no hope left, because with Jesus, all things are possible.
Now that we understand our calling, may we bring the Word to those living a strayed life! May we bring the Word of God and transform the lives and stories of those who have not yet recognized Jesus as their Savior. Only the Word of God has the power to set us free.
John 8:32 — “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
May we bring this word of faith to those who have not yet discovered what their calling is!
