Matthew 24:46 How to serve God?

Published On: 11 de June de 2022Categories: Bible Study

We are in the service of God on this earth, but do you know what it really is to serve God? To serve means: To work in favor of someone. And we are really working in the service of the kingdom of God. When Jesus comes to earth, he fulfills his purpose and empowers us so that we can continue to carry on his saving work. John 14:12 – Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do, and greater works than these will he do, because I go to my Father.

When the Lord Jesus returns for his church or on an individual call, he wants us to come to be vigilant, faithfully and lovingly serving his word. Matthew 24:46 Blessed is that servant whom his lord, when he comes, finds to serve thus.

Characteristics of Servant of God

Humility

Serving God requires humility from human beings. Matthew 23:11 – The greatest among you shall be your servant. The Lord Jesus Christ himself, being 100% man and 100% God, demonstrated his humility. Being God he gives his life that we might live,

Worship in Spirit and in truth:

John 4:23 – But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father seeks such to worship him.

What does it mean to worship God in spirit and in truth?

When we talk about worship we must understand that worship in spirit and in truth is this with the heart turned totally to God through sincere worship. The truest worship is not that which comes only from our lips, where we often use vague or repeated words, but that which comes from the heart,

We have a great helper and he is the one who helps us to pray, his name is Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit is the one who breaks us, showing us that we are dependent on God. When we say that we should worship we must understand that worship is where we show our respect, fear, obedience and dedication to God.

Obedience to God and His Word and Keeping His Commandments:

Deuteronomy 27:10 – Therefore thou shalt obey the voice of the LORD thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day. The Servant is readily listening to the voice of God, for he loves his master and feels useful in working on his behalf. Obedience to God’s word is the key to a victorious Christian walk. But isn’t it difficult to obey the word of God, to the point of fulfilling the ten commandments?

What are the ten commandments?

  1. “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” …
  2. “Thou shalt not make for thyself graven images.” …
  3. “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.” …
  4. “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy”. …
  5. “Honor your father and your mother”. …
  6. “Thou shalt not kill.” …
  7. “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” …
  8. “Thou shalt not steal.”
  9. “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.”
  10. “Thou shalt not covet.”

The ten commandments of the Lord are exactly all those mentioned above. But how to fulfill the ten commandments these days?

Someone once asked Jesus, master, what is the great commandment in the law?

Matthew 22:37-40 – And Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second, similar to this, is: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.

Now observe that the first is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Along with the second, which consists in loving your neighbor as yourself.

Here we have the key to fulfilling the ten commandments, for whoever loves the Lord God with all his heart, with all his soul, with all his mind, and loves his neighbor as himself.

  1. Will there be other gods? Thou
  2. shalt not make for graven images?not
  3. take the name of the Lord God in vain? Don’t
  4. you remember the Lord’s day, to keep it holy? Yes
  5. Honor your father and mother? Yes
  6. Will you kill?not
  7. tamper?n’t
  8. you steal? No
  9. Will you bear false witness against your neighbor?n’t
  10. you covet? Non

Love:

Being a servant of God directly implies loving, for if we are not able to love our fellow men whom we see, how can we love the God we do not see?

1 Corinthians 13:1-4 – Even if I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I would be like sounding brass or a clanging bell. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing. And even if I distributed all my fortune to support the poor, and even if I gave my body to be burned, and had no love, none of it would profit me. Love is long-suffering, it is kind; love is not envious; love does not treat lightly, is not puffed up.

We understand from the above verse how important love is. Even if we spoke in the tongues of angels and of men, even if they prophesied, and even to the point of giving away all their fortune to the poor or reaching the point of being killed, without love, nothing, none of this would have value.

In other words, when we do it with love, we don’t expect recognition or glory, we don’t want to do something for our own benefit. we have as base: Matthew 6:1-4 – Beware of doing your alms before men, to be seen of them; otherwise, you will have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.

So when you give alms, do not make the trumpet sound before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, to be glorified by men. Truly I say to you, they have received their reward.

But when you give alms, let not your left hand know what your right hand does;

That your alms may be given in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will himself reward you publicly.

The Lord warns us to be careful and that we should never do good deeds in public, to be admired by others, because when we do this we do not receive the reward of his Father, who is in heaven.

We should help those in need, but when we decide to help someone, we should never act like those who make a move to be praised by others. Whoever does this will receive no other reward than that, for they have already received their “glory” on this earth.

When we help someone in need, we must not let the left hand know what the right hand is doing, that is, it is not necessary for the social network, neighbors, newspapers to come to know what you have accomplished in someone’s life. God watches our actions in secret and when we help someone in secret, God will reward us.

John 13:34 – A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

When we make the wise decision to accept Jesus as Savior and become servants of God, we have the desire to be where God wants us to be, we follow his every step tirelessly, because we know that God will honor us. John 12:26 – Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant will also be. Whoever serves me, my Father will honor him.

God will honor his servants and have a reward for each one, so serve God, do not be just one more, but be the best servant, for our reward is not on this earth, but it comes from God the author and finisher of our faith!
