Genesis 1:28 – The family and the creator’s purposes

Published On: 20 de December de 2021Categories: Bible Study

God loves the family and has a purpose with it. We can say that the first “marriage” here on earth was made by God himself. After God created heaven and earth and everything that exists in it, God creates man, and God understands that it was not good for man to live alone, and for that God creates a companion, a helper for man.

We could never begin this study without talking about the emergence of the family, as our patriarchs were extremely important in human history.

Understanding the birth of the family

When we look at the previous verses of Genesis 1, we see God creating everything that exists just with the power of his word, saying “Let there be” and everything took shape on earth, but when God created man, he was not released a word of creation, but rather he makes the human being with his own hands.

Genesis 1:26-31 – And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every thing that moves on the earth.

And God created man in his image; in the image of God he created him; man and woman he created them.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over every beast that moves on the earth.

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb that gives seed, which is on the face of all the earth; and every tree, in which there is fruit that beareth seed, shall be for your food.

And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creeps on the earth, in which there is a living soul, every green herb shall be for meat; and so it was.

And God saw all that he had made, and, behold, it was very good; and it was the afternoon and the morning, the sixth.

God begins the development of human beings, and He shows an immense affection for this moment, and gives us a privilege that no other being has received, which is to be the image and likeness of God.

God then developed human beings, male and female, so that they could procreate and popularize the earth. We clearly understood that the land would only be popularized, that is, more human beings would only be born, through a sexual relationship between men and women.

In God’s word, animals had their partners, and only man was alone, God understands that it was not good for man to live alone, because man needed someone who was side-by-side with him to help him in his day by day.

Genesis 2:20-25 – And Adam named all the cattle, and the birds of the air, and every beast of the field; but for the man she did not find herself a suitable helper.

Then the Lord God caused a heavy sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed the flesh in its place;

And from the rib that the Lord God took of the man, he formed a woman, and brought her to Adam.

And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; this one will be called woman, because from man she was taken.

Therefore he will leave a man, his father and his mother, and cling to his wife, and they will both be one flesh.

And both were naked, the man and his wife; and they were not ashamed.

God himself creates the one who would be the helper of Adam, the most interesting thing is that, to form the woman, God chooses a part of the man’s body. God chose Adam’s rib to create the woman.

So we’re going to scientifically look at what the main function of the rib is.

The ribs are structures responsible for protecting and structuring the thoracic region. They are semi-arc-shaped bones that connect with a central bone called the sternum, thus forming a large box for protecting organs such as the lungs and kidneys. The ribs and their muscles are extremely important to human life, as they are responsible for defending the rib cage, maintaining negative pressure and allowing breathing. Ribs protect the heart, lungs and major blood vessels.

And now we ask why did God choose the rib?

How many ribs does a human body have? We learned from an early age at school that a human being has 12 pairs of ribs according to science.

Now let’s go to biblical numerology:

The number 12 (twelve) in biblical numerology means: Governmental perfection.

God was at that time establishing the first family on earth and we understand that within a family there is government, rules, obligations and so on. And for a family to be blessed it is necessary that there is a governmental perfection, which is only taken into existence when the man and the woman walk in common agreement and thought, where both respect each other and live according to the precepts of God.

Woman was created by God to be man’s loving companion and helper. Hence, she shared Adam’s responsibility and cooperated with him in God’s plan for his and his family’s life.

Seeing God take the woman out of Adam’s rib, we can understand that when a man leaves his father and mother and unites to his wife, that new family that is being formed, makes us understand the completeness of God over the family. The number twelve refers to something that was organized and instituted by God.

The family is something instituted by God, and for this reason the enemy fights hard to destroy it, because to this day the family continues to populate the earth, thus fulfilling God’s purpose at the beginning where man should unite to his wife and multiply.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over every beast that moves on the earth.

Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over every beast that moves on the earth.

Family only thrives if everyone is united.

Nothing can exist or remain standing when there is no union. Family is a work that only bears fruit if it is carried out as a team. It is not enough for one of the spouses to have the obligations and responsibilities, as the spouse who does not support the other’s growth is not only preventing the other, but is also preventing himself from growing, as within the family no one achieves anything alone, because everything is a joint effort.

Matthew 12:25 But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said to them, Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and every city, or house, divided against itself will not stand.

Have you ever stopped to think that when a family decides to buy a car, for example, everyone gets involved. To a financial savings, the husband and wife add the maximum amount of values and in the end everything works out, they manage to achieve the goal.

Now when there is no support within the family, one has a positive idea, but the other has a negative idea, that it will not work. This generates a feeling of incapacity and frustration within the family environment.

But how to solve this?

Within the family we must always be able to forgive, always apologize, and above all always put ourselves in the other’s shoes. It is necessary to know how to listen to the other and know how to dialogue, as dialogue is the soul of the family.

How can anyone live in an environment where spouses cannot forgive? We can have “some attitudes” that will indeed hurt and sadden the other, but we must know how to release forgiveness and also know how to recognize that we were wrong.

Ephesians 4:26 – Be angry, and sin not; do not let the sun go down on your wrath.

This is a great verse that can be applied to the family, as we must maintain control over our emotions, not allowing ourselves to be controlled by anger. The word of God warns us that we must calm our anger before the sun sets, because the feeling of anger creates opportunities for the devil.

It is not a shame for a man or a woman to admit that they were wrong. Shame is not recognizing that we are human beings full of mistakes and defects.

Love within the Family

This themeto Galatians 5:14 goes backwhich says, “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, in this one: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Family demands that we come to love it as ourselves, overcoming failures, recognizing mistakes, and understanding defects.

We don’t stop loving each other for our faults, right? So is the family, because we cannot help loving it because there is a defect. We must never make comparisons between our family and the family of others, we must understand that no family is alike, and this type of comparison generates frustration and weariness in the family environment.

Spouses are not only responsible for being the provider for the home and fulfilling their obligations to their wife, but it goes far beyond that. A man must love and respect his wife, taking care of her just as Jesus in his magnificent example of a husband, loved his wife (church) in such a way that he gave his life for her.

Which husband is willing to lay down his life for his beloved wife?

Ephesians 5:33 – Therefore, let each of you also love your wife as yourself, and let a wife treat her husband with all respect.

Let’s see that the word of God speaks to the husband and also to the wife, as she must treat her husband with affection and respect. We understand that love is not just a husband’s or just a wife’s job, it is everyone’s job. Respect within the family is in every way, especially when we are not close to our spouses.

Any load where only one person carries it leads to overload, but when the weight is divided between the parts, it becomes much easier to go further.

Beware of words

In the book of proverbs, we can find invaluable advice for family and for living. One of the most important pieces of advice that Solomon leaves for us is precisely about the care we must have with words, because our word has power, to bless and curse.

Proverbs 18:21 – Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and he who loves her will eat of her fruit.

From this verse we can reflect, on what words have we spoken about our family? Are we uttering words of blessing or words of curses?

Never say those words inside your house.

Unfortunately these days there are familiar environments where people do not know the real meaning of words and the power they can exert over a person. There are people right now who are cursing their family, their home, and their children. Because they are saying words without knowing their real meaning.  Proverbs 12:18There are some who speak like a piercing sword, but the tongue of the wise is health.

  • Disgrace: It condenses darkness, brokenness and absence of the Divine.
  • Shit: Calls rot, dirt and adversity.
  • Son of a bitch: Evokes family hatreds and disagreements.
  • Cursed: Casts plagues and embodies curses.
  • Donkey/Idiot: Should be avoided especially with children and children.
  • Miserable: Draws lack, indigence, poverty and penury.
  • Damned: At its base it means damned, suffering and wandering, cursed, malevolent, bad, bad. to call someone “damned” is to curse the person, because damned means “damned to hell.”
  • Molech: It was a demon from ancient Mesopotamia, whose original name was Molech, to which child sacrifices were made. In Africa, his name was changed to boy, and that is how he came to Brazil.

The healthy environment of a family is one in which one learns to say: good morning, good afternoon, good night, to take the blessing from the elders, apologize, say thank you and so on.

Proverbs 22:6 – Parents and children a creation under the blessings of God

It is extremely important that we come every day to bless everyone who makes up our family. Every day, pouring on them words of blessings and victories. Teaching everyone that everyone is dependent on God, because without care for Him we could do nothing.

That at the end of this study, we can understand that it does not matter the struggles and adversities that we may be facing in the family environment, as we can transform the family and make it a blessing.

First allowed the change within you first. Look inside yourself right now and change, become a better person, be the best husband, be the best wife, be the best father, be the best mother, be the best child.

We will never be able to change anything if we are not able to change ourselves and let God be the center of the family.

Understand the privilege that God has given you, for the family you have today may have looked only at mistakes and shortcomings. Out there, there are countless people from different social classes, from the smallest to the highest, who would give everything to have a family like yours.

Value, care, love and let God be the center of your family. May God bless your life and your family.
